I will have the opportunity to visit Destin Florida next month. I'm looking forward to capturing some beach shots, and shore birds. I am looking for other places, or things of interest... wondering if anyone has suggestions.

I will take equipment for landscape, wildlife and everything in between.

Thanks in advance

Pensacola Naval Air Station and Pensacola Beach may be of interest. I believe the Museum is open to the public at the Air Station but security may have stopped the pubic viewing.
The Beach has some restricted sections for wildlife, you might get some interesting bird shots.

If you like aircraft, there is the U.S. Air Force Armament Museum between Niceville and Ft. WALTON beach.

There are also several State Parks within driving distance that offer numerous opportunities to shoot wildlife. Also, just north and west are a couple of National Park Service locations that offer a variety of subjects from birds to Civil War era forts.

Have fun!

Going west to Pensacola, the National Museum of Naval Aviation History is worth a visit all in itself. You could spend 2 days there alone if you like aircraft.

They have increased security on the base, and now require photo ID to get into the museum. But other than that, there are no restrictions related to photography.

Thanks a bunch everyone... I googled the Navy base and thought for sure that it would have photo restrictions. I will certainly plan on going by. I am also researching the nearby State Parks.

This should keep me busy for a few days. . .

Thanks again

Take a ride down RT 30A to Seaside, a quaint little development on the gulf. Lots of shoreline, and cottages that make for good pics

^^^The entire length of 30A in SoWal (South Walton County) from San Destin all the way to Rosemary Beach near the Bay County line.

Beautiful developments AND pristine shoreline. Seaside, Watercolor, Gulf Trace, Alys Beach, Grayton Beach, and on and on. REALLY beautiful places...

Sounds great... if departing from San Destin could I cover the significant stops on the 30A drive in one day round trip? Is there any particular location that would be better for wildlife... more specifically birding?

In the past when visiting other beaches along the Atlantic I was able to get my best captures around fishing peers. I am excited at the opportunity to put my Sigma 150-600 sport to the test.

Thanks again to everyone for all the responses

Yes. 30A is the coastal loop off U.S. 98 in SoWal, and you can visit a couple of State Parks along the way between San Destin and Rosemary Beach.

we spent a month there a few years ago and really enjoyed a tour through a cavern that wasn't far away. I can't remember the name of it right now but there was hiking in the area with the usual alligator warnings. There was also "Florida's largest waterfall" ( into a sink hole ) which also had hiking trails around

Florida Caverns State Park is in Marianna, N.E. of Destin.

Falling Waters State Park is near Chipley, also N.E. of Destin.

Visit the little town of Seaside while you are so close to it. It's where the movie "Truman" was made and is a real storybook town. You'll shoot a LOT there. Destin has plenty to shoot that's easy to find. Go to the bay when the shrimp boats come in behind the restaurants to sell their shrimp. Pelicans, gulls and all kinds of birds wait for the boats...(I think around 4 PM.)
Also, there is a beautiful tour boat in the bay that looks like an old pirate ship...lot's of beautiful things in Destin!
