My wife and I have been regular visitors to Gibb's Gardens, http://www.gibbsgardens.com/ , since moving to Georgia last year. A few weeks ago we made the trip to the gardens specifically to photograph the water lilies is bloom. The gardens have the largest variety of water lilies in the country. As luck would have it, they had mowed the grass and trimmed the weeds just before we arrived resulting in very ugly water and lily pads covered with grass clippings. I made many shots nonetheless. While I loved the colors of the lilies, the water and grass clippings made the shots less than enjoyable. I converted several to B&W ...the attached won a first place in a local competition yesterday. I have include both the color and B&W versions for your pleasure.

On download the b&w is quite stunning! So glad you were recognized and won. Removing the color encourages us to see all those repeating patterns and pleasing shapes + a really nice tonal range. I love it! Definitely more drama and unique look than the color version.

Thanks Joe ...while I like the color, I found the bits of grass way to distracting. I am a B&W fan at heart and am very happy with the way this one turned out.

Thank you Linda. I generally advocate planning a shot to be B&W or color. This one ended up B&W by default after I saw the color version.

Thank you Richard. I have printed the B&W but not the color version. I like both, but favor the B&W ...obviously.

More than a little is still required ...I have removed about 100 spots in LR and PS so far. I should have posted the original color.
