My initial response was "Wow!" I love the colors, sky and sun. Your question caused me to look more closely, and I've decided the sameness of the small structures is indeed a bit boring :)

Without looking too closely at what they are, maybe thinking it's a city skyline, I stand by my first reaction of liking the overall impact of the shot.

I like it a lot.I'm a nut about shooting right into the sun and I know the challenges. You've done a good job with it, both with the light and the colors. As for it being a refinery, I have often thought they'd make interesting images at night all lit up but never thought of sunset - it works well, really like those flames that show up on the stacks. I hate refineries with a passion but this sort of Armageddon look suits my interpretation of them.

I would not say boring at all! Very impressive, in fact.

I'm curious... is this image a composite? Specifically, did you paste the sun into the scene? It's just that there are various details within the image that suggest to me that the sun was not originally in the position as presented here. And possibly, had already set. However, I could be very wrong about this.

No matter, it is a wonderful image.

I always make sure I read Minnie's comments because she has such a great way with words! And usually she offers an insight I hadn't considered.

I did like the fires from the stacks, but they were so tiny, I ultimately discounted them. So a closer shot, just as a different story, would have greater impact for me. Something like:

That you for your kind words 2c4. No composite and that is where the sun was. I worked on the sun a little and not completely happy with it but posted anyway.

Your crop from the left helps and maybe I should consider that. I think maybe to just where the structures start as I like the upper left cloud and also thought the darker left to the brighter right helped lead the eye. This was shot from about 20 miles away across the bay. Best viewed fullscreen with brightness turned up. Thanks Linda.

No its not boring Frank. Its a well crafted shot with good control of that bright sun.
I would have darkened the buildings and introduced some drama in the sky. But take little notice of that as I am addicted to messing with images and convinced I can improve mother nature!

I like it the way you presented it. Very pleasant.

Wasn't sure there was enough there to hold interest. Thank you.

Thanks Matt although Linda has me thinking about a small bit of crop from the left.
