I would suggest that you mask everything but the critter.

I love the flutterby in the black version, but the green behind not so much.

I should explain that I have limited software for Doing what you suggest. I only have a simple app that came with the Apple computer. I haven't the money to buy the neat stuff you all use to produce such wonderful effects that you do. I just play with it for fun. What I think might interest you and give you an idea of what you could do if you have better software. What beautiful effects are possible. I am not trying to make any fabulous statements. Just sharing what my app can do with my shots. I think I will just stay away from this section( as I have been given a lecture )and post only where there are more open minds.

How are you going to improve if you go to a forum/section where everyone just says, "nice job" ?
Critique, whether friendly or not, is the way we learn. Buck up there girl and don't take it personal!

Carolyn Probably no one was aware how limited your access to software is. Your with some big hitters here who have all the software that the Good Lord ever made available.
Your trying involved PP with an App which is not going to work. Your App Im sure can produce good results with a simpler subject.
Also not all software is desperately expensive and indeed a lot of good well used and known applications are free. Search the forums here and Google and see what you can get without breaking the bank.
I just did a quick Google search and there seems to be quite a few so good luck.

Please don't go. Your photos and PS show you have a creative streak in you, and that in itself is a valuable and welcome asset to this section. There are guys here who have spent a great del of money on software, and others who have spend absolutely nothing, all are welcomed.

If you want to invest your time into learning the sophisticated software such as GIMP (a free editor but complex) there are several users here always willing to help you out.

If you want to stick with what you have, tell us what it is and I wager there will be others here who will share their knowledge. You may well be able to teach them a trick or two.

Post Processing is not just about layers, masking and so on, it is about getting the best out of a photo with the tools available (that includes psychedelic colours and shapes etc.)

Searcher you are a soul after my heart! Yes everything you have said is true. I wish I could afford to buy some of the software out there. I am barely able to learn everything about my brother's Nikon D3100. I have been shooting with a Nikon FG for 30 years. I cannot get anyone to process my film. I can't find anyone locally that would be able to clean and adjust the FG. I had great success with it and am sad that I have to learn Digital. this camera like I said is my brother's. He has given me the entire upstairs of his home that he built. He has provided me with computer, a printer, scanner, fax. A new artisan 1430 printer by Epson. He bought me a car and provides me with a card for paying my vet bills. There is more but I think you get the idea. I have a studio, an office, bathroom, 2car garage size bedroom and a closet that is 15 ft long! Do I have it good. Yes. And I am not slow to help him with anything he needs. I have been blessed and given one of the greatest gifts of all..the love of my family. Gosh I could talk all day but the basic message has been covered.
