I am trying to decide if I should pay for camera insurance for my new Nikon D7000 and 28-300 Nikon lens. I would love to hear what everyone thinks. I'm usually an insurance kind of person, but with the camera and lens coming up to $2,000 plus, it's really a tough decision. The sales rep, said at a minimum I should insure the camera. I know nothing about camera insurance. Looking forward to your advice.

Talk to your Homeowners Agent, its probably already covered under your policy there. Most automatically cover up to $2500.00.

The D4 just came out.
How did you get a D7?

I thought about that, and I was pretty sure that if it got stolen out of my home or car it would be covered, but I wasn't sure about what if I just dropped it. I will call my insurance company first thing Monday morning. Thank you.

No worries, just funnin'.
My fingers get dyslexic at times.

A friend of mine has his equipment insured through his home.
He's not a pro, but could be.
He was cleaning the sensor on his Nikon D200 when, for some reason, the shutter and mirror closed on the swab, running it into the sensor. Nikon said it was unrepairable.
He checked with his agent and they cut him a check for the replacement cost. Now his decision is "Do I get a D7000 or D700".

I got a $50 rider on my camera equipment on my homeowners! I think it is worth it!

Wow, didn't know you could correct subject headers.
That's great!

I think it is probably worth the money.
Wish I had the extra insurance when we had a break-in.
My biggest loss was my beloved Nikon 85mm 1.8.

Judyslife51, look up "Insure or not to insure". It was a thread started a few weeks ago. There's plenty of opinions and information there that you may find helpful. I too have the D7000, and it is insured.

Yes, and check on your renter's policy if you are renting.

if you schedule your equipment seperately your deductible will be less and it covers if you drop it, regular homeowners covers from theft but you then fall under a larger deductible.

$2000 should buy insurance for over two hundred thousand dollars of equipment.

I have a rider on my homeowners policy which covers repair, lose, etc.

Is the store selling this policy, then run away fast.

I thought that was the cost of the camera and lens, not the insurance.
