I wouldn't be surprised if the 42 St. camera was a gray market item. Nikon has a price level that the dealers that I use all adhere to. I am not so sure that I wouldn't get the gray market one as I have never, in some 35 years of owning Nikon cameras, used their repair service.

Do a search here for 42nd Street Photo. In short you'll find 'STAY AWAY'.

Probably grey market- Nikon USA won't touch it if you have trouble.
And I bet they will bait & switch when you try to order

Also, look at accessory prices.
8gig SD card for $99!!!???!!!
Seriously???
Be afraid.
Be VERY afraid!!

If it sounds too good to be true it is too good to be true. Buy from a reputable dealer or buy a refurb from Nikon if you have to save $.

Yes, or any of the big legit stores such as Adorama, B&H, and Cameta. These three in particular are great on Customer Servce as well as being fully honest.

I believe there was an old-time 42nd St. that was legit...but not the current outfit.

I am probably wrong on the detail, but wasn't that 'old 42nd St' actually 46th or 47th St Photo. Old timers correct my numbers.

I used 42nd St more years ago then I care to remember (late fifties or early sixties) and had no problem with them. But as you can see by doing a search things there have changed and not for the better. I think I would go with Amazon to.

Consider buying direct from Nikon. And you can save money buying a "refurbished" camera - reconditioned and re-calibrated to better than new condition by Nikon technicians.

Can not comment myself re' the above, as being in the UK my port of call was Jessops but this post got me interested.
Googled in 42nd Street Photo reviews & the attached looked interesting.

"Bait and switch. I purchased a Nikon D750, the price seemed low, but 42nd Street had a good rating so I gave them a try. After a couple of days, I got a high pressure sales call for a memory card and warranty upgrade. That is when it came out, that the camera was an import model with no warranty in the US. I don't necessarily blame them for selling import models without warranty, but a honest dealer would have made that clear from the get-go and many do."

There are several people here confusing 42nd Street Photo with the late lamented 47th Street Photo, which in a current iteration is an on-line only site under different management. 42nd Street Photo is an operation that purposely plays on the confusion resulting from the similarly of its name to the venerable old 47St Photo. It is not a authorized Nikon dealer and sells grey good imports only.. As a result, not only will Nikon not repair cameras purchased there under warranty, they will not service them at all even if the customer is willing to pay for service. The store also tends to bait and switch. Be very careful. Buying an expensive DSLR there many not be as cost effective or as good a deal as the low price might suggest.

Have bought expensive (for me) items from Adorama and B&H very satisfied. I have also bought refurb items, particularly Nikon lenses with excellent results. If price is an important issue, worth your while to see if the 810 is available. They offer extended insurance quite reasonably.
