Very unusual looking insect. Never seen them around here before. A couple of them were hanging out on one of my olive trees this morning. Good bugs, btw.
Turns out these go back over 200 million years. Wild.

Feel free to post your unusual looking insect photos.

He is unusual looking. That's a nice photo you took, with the leaves framing that bug.

Wow... Lived in San Diego for 36+ years, and can't remember ever seeing one like that.

I wonder how they ended up at my place. There must be something tasty for them to eat.

We saw this moth in South Africa. It was quite different than any others that I have seen.

That's one wild looking moth with what looks like snake heads (?) on each wing tip. How big was the moth?

It was probably 5" tip to tip of the wing. It was impressive. We also saw another one that is quite different but not as good a picture. I'll go ahead and post it.

Thanks, Natasha.

Yow, llindstrand, that one is impressive too. Is it as big as the first?

They were both about the same size. They were in a breezeway at the lodge we were staying at. The tile that they are on was a baseboard type and was probably 5 or 6" high. We had to pass by them going to our room.

Very fuzzy from the first day I got my camera, but an interesting pattern on a bee, who is "holding: the stamen for a drink -
