I rented a 5DSR for a trip to Spain to determine if it was a good body for me - and to keep from fighting with my wife over who gets to use our 5D mk 3! (cost =$589 for 2 1/2 weeks with insurance) There are lots of comments out there about requiring a tripod, etc. My wife shot the 5D mk 3 with a 24-105 almost all the time. With the 5DSR I alternated between a Canon 11-24 f4.0, Canon 85mm f1.2 or Canon 70-200mm f2.8 Here are my conclusions after shooting about 3000 frames. All shots were handheld, all lenses are "L" series.
It is a great camera, it is very usable, I would love to have one. The resolution is remarkable. Will I buy one? Not sure, I'll wait a while, maybe a 1DX mk 2 or 5D mk 4 will have a higher priority in the budget. I mostly shoot wildlife/birds with landscape on trips.
As you would expect from the tiny pixels, the high iso performance is not as good as the 5D mk 3; I found 3200 to be the highest usable ISO; those frames did have noise, but easily corrected in lightroom to good levels. Handholding I got good crisp photos as low as 1/30 but had to really hold steady or brace on railing etc. I tried to shoot at a higher speed whenever possible. Some results below. Again all were handheld and I'll upload a full frame photo and a severe crop from it as well.

Did you shoot in RAW?
What size average were your files?

yeah, I shoot raw. I'll have to go check my computer when home, but I did a 7 shot (in vertical format) and then merged to panorama in photo shop and the size was almost 900mb! 32,950 pixels wide and 8836 pixels high. I can post that when I am home.
The computer does slow down.

Thanks! I have been looking at the 5DSR and appreciate the report!
The detail is incredible Bill. I think that maybe you'd better hurry and buy one before your trip to French Polynesia so you won't have regrets!
