Three shots of this waterbird at the Dallas Trinity Audubon Center. I was about 25 yards away and he paid little attention to me after a couple of seconds of looking straight at me. Must have thought I was no threat. Anyone know what it is? I stored the originals for a closer look.

I'm pretty sure it's a blue heron. I've seen then now and again up in my ' neck 'o the woods'. Don 't have any current photos of them at the time, though, sorry.
Nice shots! That's a Blue Heron.
I wished that the Dallas Trinity Audubon Center opened much earlier in the mornings. 9AM is getting well past the best light of the morning.
McKinneyMike. I've talked to the people at the desk there and although it doesn't open till 9:00, they don't mind photogs coming in early or on Mondays when they are closed. Park in the lot on the left at the entrance and walk in. I was there yesterday when they were filming something by the main building and no one said a word even though they were officially closed. Also as you come off I45 there is a wetland area off on the right that you used to be able to drive down about a mile. It's been fenced and now you have to walk it. Good luck and have fun. BTW thanks for the ID.
Thank you for the infomation about allowing people in earlier in the AM! Much appreciated.

very nice third shot of what i think is a blue heron dean.
Thanks MerryTexan. I'm pretty sure you're right on the ID. I had a couple of people on other blogs tell me that.
Good shots of that blue heron, Dean!
