I enjoyed seeing everybody take the image of the Milky Way and make it what they saw, I decided I'd give it another shot.

This time with a more terrestrial image.

Sonny and I got this while out scouting for a spot to view/shoot the eclipse.

Have fun!

Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

The blown areas in the sky needed repair after a dose of Camera Raw. Then into Photoshop for a quick spin with the tubo charger screaming before delving into the Nik Filter box and performing some fine tuning .
Blues on far mountains may be strong for some tastes but I like it however easy peasy to adjust to individual requirements. New sky added from my collection but very subtly applied with a blending mode at low opacity.
Good photo to work on and posting access to the Raw file is a great idea.

Nice (as usual) :-)

Did you use the raw or the jpeg?

The Raw file. Unlikely I could have got this amount of detail from the Jpeg.
I always work in Raw if I can so was glad you posted a link to it.

I was kind of hoping someone would take the bait and try both, just to see for themselves what the difference is :-)

It seems you lost a lot of the detail in the clouds too though.
That was why I asked.

Looks like we're mat be in for some good weather for the eclipse:
WeatherUnderground
Sunday

Sunday 0 % Precip. / 0 in
Sunny skies. High 87F. Winds W at 10 to 20 mph.
Sunday Night 0 % Precip. / 0 in

You had two blown chunks sky fella which is why I needed the repair kit at ready lol About one third of it had no detail.
Open it in your PP program of choice and check the histogram. It will be way over to the right showing clipped highlights. This looks like ideal shot for bracketed exposures.

Weather here is consistent its always hot its midday as I write this and around 32 degrees Celsius with bright sun rather like a blow torch on full throttle.

Here's my quick attempt from the DNG. I think the mood was sort of dark, so I tried to adjust accordingly. I couldn't quite get what I wanted without at least a few artifacts.

Like I said, you lost a lot of detail that is in the original image that you downloaded.

Just trying to figure out what was gained.

The histogram does NOT report an accurate view of the RAW file, only of the jpeg that you are producing from it.
Once you know how to read one, it becomes easier to process an image without losing so much detail.

Very nice!

It is strange, it wasn't dark, but it had a dark feeling to it!
As you can see from mine, I like the foreground dark too!

I thought someone would take the crepuscular rays and make them really highlight the ground.
Hmm, something for the lurkers to do :-)

The top of Parker mountain is fairly easy to access, high and away from town lights. We used to fly gliders up there.
