Aloha jimmya,

When I turn on the video there is a squeak while it records which I'm sure will be picked up by the mic. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem and knows what the cure is before I have to research more.
I almost never use video but will have a hard time selling it this way and I want to sell the whole system.

Well Aloha to you too. I was stationed at Schofield many years ago when Honolulu was a much smaller town with no freeways as it is now. I'd love to return but alas now I'm retired and unless you'd agree to finance such a trip I won't be coming back - just kidding of course.

"Squeak?" I still don't understand, especially where it could be coming from. Any dslr camera, as I'm sure you know, lifts the mirror up and opens the shutter for video.
These are the mechanical things that happen so the only thing I can think of is something mechanical.

One other possibility is feedback between your on board mike and the camera's onboard speaker, if you have one.
If you do have a speaker try shutting it off and try again.

I shoot lots of video with my Canon t3i and have never experienced anything like what you describe... sorry.

Try the speaker thing and if not that perhaps a photo shop can lubricate your mechanics and see if that helps.

Best of luck and nice chatting with you.

Jimmy

Well Aloha to you too. I was stationed at Schofie... (show quote)

Mahalo Jimmy,

Yea, it sounds like a hamster on a squeaky wheel. I'll get out my manual and check out what you mentioned.

I'm disabled and retired also living in the Desert in Ca. I grew up here and hate it. Will get back to the Islands before I die or to die. My last job was the Pearl Harbor Visitors Center. Went through Schofield quite often going from Makaha to North Shore and back.

You take care my friend,

Mahalo, M.M.

I'd like to get back to the islands as well but it won't be in this life time. I wish you luck my friend.

It should be pretty simple to disable your camera's speaker... at least the way you describe it that's what it sounds like. It should be a menu item.

Best of luck buddy. Take care of yourself. Hey, we're both desert dwellers - you in Ca, me in Az.

I doubt its feedback from the speaker...id be surprised if the speaker was on during the recording.

Can i suggest you turn off auto focus and have fixed aperature and try again. maybe the continuous adjustment of one or the other causes the noise.

On my sony you can hear the af motor with the audio if the levels are low..but its not a squeak.
