I just installed a SSD hard drive which makes the computer about 5 times faster. Then I found out my router is to slow, takes a couple of tries to get on the internet. Just to make sure it was the router I hooked direct bypassing the router and it works fine. SSD is one of the best upgrades.

I would be surprised if the hard drive speed and the router speed are related.

Yes they are. I hooked direct and worked fine. Now I'm hooked up through the router again and having problems. My service provider told me to try hooking direct. I'll get a splitter to plug in the phone line jack. Cheaper than a new router.

Agree. Ordered my last computer with 2 SSDs. It doesn't seem to impact internet speed unless I am download large files.

No they are not related at all. If you have a router issue you will have the same issue no matter what hard drive you have installed. And bypassing a router is not the smartest idea, it leaves your computer internet facing without any protection. It is one way to test things however.

I think what Cature48 is trying to tell you is your router is a seperate issue, what you are seeing is referred to as Lag Time.

Your system is booting faster then the WiFi Card. When you connect to your Ethernet card, it is constantly on, so will not have Lag Time. He is also saying by bypassing the router you have dropped one line of defense from hackers. I wireless router offers a separate fire wall/ IP address.

You can google SSD WiFi Lag.

I am not a Tech but understand what is being said.

Just so you are aware, a phoneline spliter and phone line cable are not going to work. You will need an Ethernet cable which you may plug into the back of router.

Well, I'm glad to hear that the SSD is so much faster. Helps to lean me further that way on the fence. ;)
I am sorry to hear the router is bogging things down. But I'm confident you can get it worked out.

Anytime I have made any changes, there is often a few hiccups to figure out. I recently went to Windoze 10 and I'm still doing a little tinkering. But very happy overall.

Hang in there, things will work out.
One thing for sure, your computer should be a ball of fire for you. In spite of the World Wide Wait...

The phone companies are the biggest reason there is a wait... :hunf:

I just got done with a "Move To" of my entire picture pile to an external drive. 660 GB of everything.
It took about 3 - 24 hour days to get it done. But during, my computer ran about as fast as a constipated snail.
I am so glad that is over!

There are pros and cons to SSD. Mostly pro's. The con is the cost of the card and the amount of storage it contains. In a laptop there is limited space. Where on a desktop you have more room to play so to say.
