Cleaning out the storage area this week I ran across several reels of 8mm film. Most on 6" reels ranging in age from 40-70 years. Several options appeared on a Google search. Can anyone recommend a company or service for transfer to DVDs? Thanks in advance!

If you have one nearby, Costco does this for a reasonable price.

I had 21 of the small (50 foot long) reels done at WalMart. They spliced them into 6 inch reels, cleaned them and restored some of the color. It was about $250 for all of them converted to DVD's. They also included chapter info for each reel they spliced together. They were between 50 and 60 years old and the DVD's are incredible.

Why put film on DVD, to watch on a tiny TV? It is so much better to watch on a big screen!!!!

Film will eventually go bad or you may not have a projector to watch it on. Dvd supposedly will last for many years. Also, if you have a big screen TV its just like watching on one of the old home roll up movie screens. Yes, you don't have the noise of the projector running but oh well.

I had several reels of Super 8 and several more of 16mm converted by Put it on Video in Des Moines, Iowa. They were backed up when I took my films in last spring, but got it all 3 lots done by the time the first lot was to be back. I was quite pleased with how they turned out. http://www.putitonvideo.net/

Any big screen TV is still tiny compared to a movie screen and the resolution can never reach that of a movie on screen, also, there is no sound from the projector, but nice full sound from speakers (also un matched by any TV)!
