Need something a bit different for this shot. Used Topez Glow 100% for background and 70% for plane.
Jim, if you would post the original photo, with (store original) checked, perhaps some other editors can try their hand at it, explaining how they did it as they go along. You might find one you like.
It's difficult to pick up where someone else leaves off.

Thanks Jim. Are you looking specifically for some sort of glow effect, or are you open to other interpretive edits as well?

I sent this to the owner and he liked it. Having said that I am open to other interpretations. Have to shoot some cars this weekend and will be trying something different on them. I might learn something here that will work on the car shots.
OK, a slightly different look. I added a layer in Topaz Simplify which puts a black outline around all the edges, cleaned up some of the cement on the landing field, and played with the lighting levels and sharpness.

Interesting version Bob. Thank you.

Here is another touch to you plane.
RBorud
here is my rendition, used local brush to brighten propeller and nose blur background with radial filter add saturation to the sky with graduated filter. added clarity and a few other exposure adjustments...
Enlarged canvas at top
Added a tip to the propeller which included positioning, and scaling
Added sky
Cropped off a portion from the bottom of photo
Fixed distracting stains in the foreground of tar mat
Eliminated squiggly lines on aircraft body
Spent ages trying to equalise the plane's shadow then lost most of the effect with the pronounced vignette  . Everything else is fairly obvious.
