I discovered this wonderful and very useful fact because I fell in my house and cut the bottom of my foot (I had flip flops on but one came off) . . But I didn't realize I had cut it....so I just stood up and was glad no one saw me do this. I reached down and picked up the flip flop...then I lifted my foot and discovered a large patch of blood on my new cream colored carpet. Aaaaacccckkkkk!!!!

I put a handful of paper towels between my foot and flip flop and quickly attempted to blot up the blood with more paper towel. Of course that got some of it, but not all of it. Google & the Internet to the rescue!

I expected to find various ideas but not this one. Saliva. Yep, just put some of your saliva directly on the blood...and watch it simply dissolve. It's a miracle!!!!! Enzymes to the rescue!! Because I had blotted with the paper towel, I had actually pushed the blood into the fibers rather than lift it off....so I had to use more saliva than just one time.

The blood is absolutely & completely out of the carpet...and it looks like it never happened. Apparently this will work on fabric supposedly even if the blood has dried. I haven't had to try it on dried blood, but it is easy enough to try.

So just remember ..... spit on your carpet and watch.....or just lick your fingers and wipe on the spot.

That is your usefull fact for the day. :-)

I discovered this wonderful and very useful fact b... (show quote)

Thank you for the tip, I usually used just plain water and had good results. While the blood is still wet, I used to drip some water on it, to delute the blood, and once it did, I couid just soak it up (paper towel) or just use the vacuum.
That always worked with wine too, or anything else spilled!

Seriously, if you didn't realize it, you may have neuropathy. Be careful about that stuff.

Yeah, I did also use some cold water, but the saliva really dissolved it, not just diluted it.

I should have said that I didn't realize the cut because I also had twisted my knee and that hurt more. :-)

You discovered the old stand by, readily available, super cleaner we old motorcycle riders have used to clean most anything for years.

Well, I've never been a motorcycle rider, so I guess that's why it was new to me. But I did know that mothers used it on. Abies faces. :- D

Hydrogen Peroxide also works well, and you don't have to chew any tobacco to get a squirt bottle full.

Hydrogen peroxide might change the color of the carpet.
