Younger members of the forum likely won't recognize their names, let alone their faces. But for those of us old enough to remember their short films that accompanied feature-length films at movie houses, their "finger-poke-in-the-eye" humor will always be fondly remembered.

Actually they had reruns well into the 70's. And in lots of their film they were older and fatter! Just like me now...

Somehow the TV reruns never seemed as funny to me as their antics on a theater screen. (Just as "Gone With the Wind" or "Lawrence of Arabia" are less impressive on a TV screen than on a theater screen.) Of course the Stooges weren't characters in so-called epics. But they were, literally, bigger than life on the big screen.

What's fascinating about what you posted is that some movies do not play well on TV, and the opposite occurs too . TV series made into motion picture sometimes completely bombs at the box office . Interesting .

Moe Howard was the driving force behind The Three Stooges . He left home at 14 and went immediately into show business . Their comedy is timeless , as every generation since the 1930's continue to find them funny .

I would wake right past these guys. I loved them. Grew up with them, L&H, Eastside Comedy (Bowery Boys), Little Rascals, etc.

Did we know that the average height for these guys was only around 5'4" ?.... Curly was 5'5. Did we also know that Curly walked with an exaggerated gate to cover-up a limp he aquired from shooting himself in the foot at a young age ?

I have always found it interesting that the Stooges appealed much more to males than to females. There are women who liked them, but many more men.

Moe and Curly were brothers and their name was Horowitz and Larry's (not a brother) was Feinstein, but due to anti-semitic mentality of the times they 'Americanized' their names. Howard is the English form of the name Horowitz and Larry just shortened his to Fine. Also, Shemp was another brother. He came into the series after Curly had a stroke. He made only cameo appearances after his stroke.

If you watch closely, you can see the rubber hammers and crowbars, etc they hit each other with bend slightly. They actually did hit each other and I once read that Larry had callouses on the sides of his face from being slapped so much by Moe.

Moe was the last to die, I believe, in the early 70's.

Always enjoyed their antics, both as a kid and as an adult. Crazy, funny and a lot of fun to watch.
