Love my heavy pan tripod, looking at the Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod with 496RC2 Ball Head

I have a great aluminum 75mm bowl pan tripod I use for my D610 and my video. It is rock steady with my Nest Gimbal and my 500mm f/4P, I have no complaints other than it's HEAVY! Over 12 lbs with the gimbal and around 20 lbs with my camera and lens. Yeah, it doesn't stray too far from my vehicle when I travel with it.
B&H has the Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod with 496RC2 Ball Head on sale now for about $190.00 and it is light. Looking for people who have experience with this tripod for recommendations or warnings. I will use it for lighter, portable work, and am not expecting it to be as steady as my aluminum tripod. I read all of the reviews and the ball head has some negative feedback on it but I can always upgrade the ball head if need be in the future.
Thank you!
Norman

The 290 series is a step below the 190 series, which is in turn a step below the 055 series. I would recommend stepping up to the 055 model, its well worth the extra cost, and the weight increase is negligible when compared to the increase in height and stability it will give you.

I have it but with the pan and tilt head. Works extremely well with Nikon D7100 and Tamron 150-600 combination.

Hi JimBob, were you referencing the Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod with 496RC2 Ball Head, or another tripod? I've got a D7100 w/a 200-500mm & know w/the bracket generally requires a monoP support, but was wondering if this has the capability to support the two?
