I was told at my local camera store when purchasing a tele converter (Sigma 1.4) that it could be used on my sigma 70-200 but not on the sigma 150-500. Okay, guess they are correct, but this picture is the result of using it on manual focus on the larger lens. Picture came out at 700mm.
You will have to stop using the 1.4 converter that way George. You have been told that it will not work. Why don't you take-in the 'Words of Wisdom' from the person at the camera store. You can antagonise the orator by showing him/her your result. Go on, you know you want to. I would.
Not a bad picture George, did they tell you why it could not
be used?
Just curious, did you have to manually focus and what was the minimum aperture you could achieve?

Did they? Inquiring minds want to know, since it seems to have worked...
When I purchased the converter it was to use with my 70-200. I had asked what other lens I could use with it and mentioned the 150-500. I was told it would not fit into the lens ??? Anyway after I broke it in with the 70-200, I pulled up the 15-500. the converter coupled with no problems. The auto focus seemed not to work, so I went to Manual and used it that way. The photo store may have been alluding to the fact I couldn't not get auto focus, but the converter did work. Not having the shot info with me, I believe I set for shutter priority and set exposure to +2/3, ISO TO 400 used a tripod and a 2 second delay. That shot was done from a 12th floor balcony.
thanks everyone for your comments.....

You'll note the OP manually focused.
In this case "not work" meant "won't autofocus". In other cases it means much more than that including lens or camera damage.
It won't autofocus because the min f-stop, where focusing happens, is too high when the tele-extender is put on that lens. Most cameras won't autofocus higher than 5.6. Some newer ones f8.
I recently bought a Nikon 1.4 to use with the Sigma 150-500 only to learn it won't even connect without modification. Sent it back.
Yes, there is a list of cameras that will focus at F8. I would think that a camera shop, not necessarily a camera department, would have filled in the blanks. Not always, I guess!

Best to read the lens literature.
Nikon provides a list for their teleconverters of which Nikon lens they work with. Check it out on their Web site.

Been there! Lots of stuff available when we check! They used to list the AF-S VR Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED as not compatible, but folks were using it. It is now listed as AF Not Possible, a big difference from not too long ago. I only bring this up because I've seen it mentioned on this site as questionable.

Especially since most macro shooters focus manually anyway!
