I read a post yesterday with a similar Lightroom issue. I have been previously using Lightroom 5. I purchased, and loaded the boxed version of Lightroom 6 and experienced problems installing the JF plug-in which allowed me to upload directly to a website I'm trying to get running. As a result I continued using Lightroom 5 because of the ability to upload directly. There were times when I had them both open at the same time, and a few imports were uploaded by the Lightroom 6 version, but I reverted back to Lightroom 5 quickly... meaning that the catalogs didn't appear to be completely sinked.
My question... I work at a school were we have recently purchased Adobe Creative Cloud agreements for our student lab and staff computers. I am about ready to download the Lightroom 6 CC version. After downloading and opening for the first time, will I be able to sink the CC version with the Lightroom 5 catalog? My goal is to work in only one version... I'm no longer concerned about the jf plug-in. Should I remove the previous Lightroom 5, and 6 (boxed versions) from my computer? Worried about confusing things more than I already have... hope this question makes sense. I appreciate any counsel. Thanks in advance...
Download v6, it will copy and use the catalog from v5. You can remove v5 but I would do that only when v6 is up and running.
It is a good idea to remove the v5 shortcut from your desktop.
Advice or you will be sank...
- Make a backup before anything (To revert just in case).
- Remove all old versions of LR but keep the Dbase
- Install new LR after cleaning the registry (not as difficult as some may think)
- Reboot (not really necessary but when playing with registry and installing new stuff a good idea to refresh the system)
Now you will be in synch...
As to your issue? Who can tell if this will help? Not me.
Thanks for the quick reply. Should I remove the boxed Lightroom 6 version prior to downloading the CC version?
Good advice... that would be another nightmare... much appreciation.

I advise you to follow Searchers advice, he's quite knowledgeable with LR6, also dngallagher if he jumps in here.

Hang on, I did not read your OP post properly. (Apologies)
LR CC will take the latest catalog, IE v6, not v5.
When you installed v6, it would have taken the catalog from v5, and you have added photos to v6, then reverted to using v5 - is that correct?
Which means you probably have duplicate images in 5 and 6. plus some new ones in 6, plus new ones in 5?
Please confirm
Side issue, but it applies to multiple versions of lightroom.
I was using lightroom 5. I finally gave in and got one of those "sales" of CC2014 (now upgraded to CC2015). Since I am by no means sure I will continue it after the 1st year (I am used to Corel PSP and having problems getting used to PS in the CC.) I decided I wanted a stand alone of LR6 before Adobe decided to kill it off for good. I bought the upgrade and installed it on my new laptop which has no other PP software at all, yet.
Everything went well after I realized it needed the LR5 to upgrade properly so I uninstalled 6 and then reinstalled first 5 and then 6. Opened fine etc. ID was LR 6. Next day when I booted the laptop it had a very long "upgrading" session which I thought was Win 10. Opened LR and now it IDd as CC2015. ?!?!?!?!?!? And tells me I have 0 days on my trial and need to subscribe, pay etc. Uninstalled and started over, next day, same thing.
Got on phone with Adobe support, also on a chat with the same tech as per his instructions. Led me through a session of deletes etc. of files here and there then uninstalled and reinstalled etc. It did it again. So he left me on hold a while to consult with someone. Came back, had me uninstall again, then set up a second Adobe account with a different e-mail, seems the automatic upgrade IDs you by your e-mail address, not the serial number of your product. When it saw that I had CC it was automatically changing the stand alone to CC. With the new account the install went well and it has stayed LR 6 for 5 days now. It keeps saying there is an upgrade to CC available, I just click no. Tech support tells me they are working on a way to tell it no once instead of every time I open LR on the laptop.

This sometimes occurs on current and established CC versions. The instant fix is to sign out / in to your Adobe account. It seems to work for a couple of months, the message turns up again.
ahem, actually both are correct.
