Is it possable to add an adapter to a prime Opteka 85mm f/1.8 so that it is converted to automatic auto instead of just being a manual auto lens? I doubt it -- but I must satisfy myself with someone else's answer.

NO AF - but you could get AF confirmation ( with an enabled adapter) or you could use focus peaking if you have it to help with manual focus .

I don't have focus peeking --- but with an adapter ring that would beep and show a spot on the viewer lens, I think I could buy one but then I would probably loose about two stops of light and that would not be good - would it?

You will loose no light with the correct adapter....

Balls, just my experience, but there is a pretty wide spread between an AF confirmation beep and actual spot-on focus.
Of course it also depends on how fast you use your lenses, and if you always shoot with gobs of dof, then again, it won't matter.
The ONLY way to assure good Focus is to use live view! Good luck. ;-)

Well -- which adapter would you use on a canon T1i - an effective economical adapter?? To Sharpshooter and Imagemeister.

Since the Opteka is already Canon EOS mount - there is no adapter. Oddly enough, If you had the Opteka in Nikon mount - you could get a Nikon to EOS adapter with focus confirmation.

That's what I was thinking --I will just have to trust my eyes whenever there is enough light for me to estimate focused subject, otherwise in a dark environment I couldn't tell whether or not I was in exact focusÂ….. But that is the penalty I was willing to take when I bought the lens. I was just thinking that maybe someone had a practical solution to solve this manual focusing problem. Thanks to all who gave this a thought!
