Last week Canon released a new firmware update for the 7DII. Ver 1.0.5 The previous one, released in May, I believe, was 1.0.4
Available at canon.com
Three things to remember when updating:
1. Push the "Set" button when the update completes.
2. Remove the battery for several after pushing the Set button and turning the camera off.
3. Use the camera's menu to verify that the firmware update is now 1.0.5
Full instructions are on a pdf in the download.
Just did mine. Took about 5 min.
Thanks for the info. I need to update mine. Do you know if a firmware update will affect a lens micro adjustment calibration? Figure I would apply the firmware, then do the calibration of my 70-200mm where I've noticed the focus is not spot on.

This is what is in 1.0.5
1) Improves AF accuracy when used in combination with the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM lens or EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens.
Note: MFA for these lenses may have to be reapplied.
2) Fixes a phenomenon in which, in very rare cases, the "Peripheral illumination correction" is applied inconsistently.
3) Fixes a phenomenon in which, while performing an EF lens firmware update, the progress bar displayed on the LCD monitor may freeze at 100% even though the update has been completed.
4) Fixes a processing error in relation to the leap second for the "Geotag information appended to image" and "Log data" GPS functions.
5) Fixes a phenomenon, where at the time of shooting in very rare cases "Err 70" occurs, or the shutter does not release.

It appears it may require recalibration for some lenses.

Doing the update did not clear (reset) my AF micro adjust settings but it's a good idea to write them all down before doing the update.

With a brand new out of the box 7DMK II would I need to download 1.0.4 prior to loading 1.0.5?

Probably not. Firmware updates are not generally incremental and added to the original firmware, but rather a replacement for it. There is nothing in the installation instructions which indicates all firmware updates must be applied.

Not unless the instructions (included in the 1.05 DL) says so
Also....my 7DII purchased 1 month ago came with 1.04.

Thanks, mine will be here tonight awaiting the BBT!

It depends on whether his camera was older. I got mine in late June, and 1.04 which was released on May 13th was not on it. Lots of people purposely don't update firmware because they believe its as likely to screw things up as it is to fix things.

They do not indicate the necessity of installing all firmware updates.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure that mine will come with firmware 1.0.2 on the body. I only bought the body, no new lens yet.

You aren't required to do a firmware update, but they are recommended. If you take your camera to Canon for cleaning or anything else, they will always check your firmware and do an update. The only problem I have with a firmware update is that it usually changes some of the settings that I've done and I have to sit down for 10 minutes to change them back. It doesn't change the date, time, or your copyright info, but it might change things like how you have your info button set, back button focus setting etc.
do you know a good alternative for winzip on a PC? Mine doesn't work.

The download will be in a zipped folder, but it should open if you click on it. In the zipped folder will be a folder and a file. The folder contains the pdf instructions, in multiple languages. The file, of about 29 mb, is the update. Just copy it to your CF or SD card and you should be good. I only put one card in the camera when doing the update. Probably makes no difference, but it is less hunting the camera has to do to find the file.
