I wish I had better lenses (or a better camera so my lenses were not so taxed) but I get out there and try. Love seeing all the action in the photos shared by others and while mine are not as good, I am working on it. Sorry for the noise. Hope you enjoy.

Hi Bill!
Looks like you are doing fairly well with what you have. What equipment are you using? If we know what you are working with we may be able to help you out a little. I too shoot some Middle school football in Florida for local newspapers. Granted it doesn't have all the power and action of High School ball but you can get some pretty nice stuff. The best advice I can give you without knowing your equipment is to keep your shots tight. Fill the viewfinder with the action. If you look at your three samples you can quickly see the tighter shots look much better than the first one that has more open spaces. The other thing is Focus is king. If the image is not sharp there is not much you can do with it. Lastly, when you are shooting let the action come to you. Even with 300mm f/2.8 the far side of the field is out of bounds for top quality photos. Try to keep your cropping to about 20% or less. This will keep your images sharp and clean.
The second image is High School. I included it to show the difference equipment can make. I guess it confirms the thinking of "to resolve a problem when shooting sports photography, just throw money at it" LOL.

What equipment did you shoot your images with and what were your settings?
Was these shots taken at night or in the afternoon?

Photo #1 Canon T3 f5.6 28-135mm at 135 mm ISO 800 taken at 34.9 meters around 5:00pm (at the start of the game).
Photo #2-4 Canon T3 85mm F1.8 (set at 2.8) 1/640 ISO 400 7.3 meters from subject taken at the end of game (6:00pm maybe?).
You can see info when photos are downloaded. Cloudy evening so rather dark for the 5.6 lens but it is what I got. Crap camera and only the prime lens to really do the job but no zoom when that is on the body. I usually shoot manual to max my potential but some were shot on auto with the 135mm zoom because lighting was very inconsistent with the clouds during sunset.
Posted info for you. So many cameras/lenses would have done much better but that will have to wait a while. One day...
