I have not shot a photo since my N90 film days. I am using a Tamron 150-600 that I just picked up used this week. I know I need to lower the exposure to not blow out the highlights after seeing these photos. I am a rank beginner that is here to learn and enjoy. Any constructive comments are always welcomed.
No photos attached, McKinneyMike. Would love to see them so we can give you some guidance.
More from yesterday morning

Nice start. Good that you know what needs to be changed, so in many ways you are ahead of the curve over many. I always set up my cameras to slightly under expose so I can bring them up if needed in post with out blowing out highlights to begin with. I also shot Raw. If you are careful to get a correct exposure you might do just as well with jpg's.
Very nice shots, Mike. As for exposure, I think 1/2 to 2/3 stop less would have been just about right. I have the same lens on my Sony Alpha 850 and think it's 1 of the best long lenses out there. Keep up the good work.
You are off to a good start. Nice lens. I have the Sigma 150-500 and like it too. You have been given some good advice regarding the exposure. I set "highlight alert" on my camera so that any blown out areas blink on my playback screen. That gives you a chance to make exposure changes right away. Also if you camera will do it you can set it to take three exposures. One under, one over and one at zero. It helps when you are taking shots in direct sunlight. Then you can merge them together in post processing. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your input! I appreciate any and all thoughts on how I can improve and grow.
