Sony Alpha 7R II menu settings

Has anyone found a written description of the options and reasoning for all the menu settings? I think I have this figured out; BUT now I find that if I update my Firmware from 1.00 to 2.00, ALL my setting will return to default. And, no, these can't be saved in M 1 or 2 or on a SD card, per Sony tech. Poor design.

So I can only hope someone has these options in a spreadsheet where I can record my time consuming settings so I can return them after the firmware update. (Or not update???)

Waddaya think?

Don't remember having to reset mine after upgrading.

I didnt have to change mine either after the upgrade. I dont have anything written down but I did follow Gary Fongs suggestions for setting it up. Just google him or search on You Tube.

Your settings shouldn't reset. everytime I've updated an A7 camera it tells me all my settings will be reset but it never does it.
I've updated an a58 in the past and that did reset all settings, so I'm guessing it's just left over text from when their updates did reset

Thanks for the info. I'll update the firmware and hope for the best. The info that all would be reset came from on line tech support (twice), so I hope they are incorrect.

BTW Gary Fong and two other advisers have different ways of setting up back button focus. Anyone here have a favorite you can advise?

I think I set mine up just going through the menu. However, even though I love BBF on my Nikon and use it constantly, I did not like it on the Sony and went back to the shutter. Don't know why really other than it just bugged me. I was using it on the a6000 though.

Where is the firmware update? I went to the Sony website and checked for drivers and downloads for the 7RM2 and there was no Version 2 firmware download nor any mention of it.

Agree that it is hard to find. A not with my camera box said to update. My camera had version 1.00.

But I downloaded it and now am having a problem getting it to install.

It's for the A7ii not a7r2, and when you download to camera you need to use the cable that came with the camera. Regular usb cable won't work.

If I read it right, the update is only for the A7, not the A7R or A7RM2, and is only for a computer with a Mac OS X operating system. That's why I didn't see it on the ILCE-7RM2 download page for Windows 7.

Well, I turned my a6000 into a brick trying to update to 2.0
Took it back and got a new one and at 1.0 it's the BEST!

Consider yourself lucky. It says right on the website that the update cannot be undone. You cannot revert to an earlier firmware once you update. Sounds quite ominous to me.

Got a fotodiox canon to e mount converter today
My mind is blown
Can it be that a camera body makes a GREAT 24-70L lens even GREATER?

If more people would take the time to honestly try Sony cameras out, they would really appreciate them.
