A few years ago I heard that when plugging an independent power cord to your computer, or anything electronic, it should be done in a certain way.
ie. First to wall outlet, then to item. Or vice versa. I personally can't see why it would matter, but then again, I'm not an electronic whiz either!
Thanks
You are right in thinking that it is irrelevant. The only situation that comes to mind where sequence is noted is with camera battery chargers. They seem to have a specific order and I suppose it is prudent to follow the directive.
If the item has a heavy load, like an appliance, I think the correct sequence is to plug the cord into the appliance first, then the wall outlet. The connector on the appliance end of the cord should not be powered when you plug it in to the appliance for safety reasons. The end w the wall plug is designed to minimize the risk of shock from loose fingers!

My wife has a powered wheelchair and their instructions were to plug the charger into the chair then the wall plug.
You should always plug into the wall socket last, and unplug it first. Whenever you connect or disconnect an electrical source, you get a spark. This will damage a small wire, a lot quicker than the solid brass bit you put into the wall.
