I finally got more hummers. I was tired and sat in the patio chair and decided to keep an eye on the feeder. It was about 8 feet away. So I trained the camera (Hand held, too lazy to go back inside to get it.) These are what I got. The humming warned me when to get my focus right. Well not always right there were about 10 throw aways. But I don't think these are bad.

Great series Corolyn. I've yet to try Hummers. I think I'll stick with dragons and damsels. Much easier.

Corolyn, lovely photo set. They are my favorite subject but you also turned me onto a new one, under my feet.

Thanks for sharing, Greg

Thank you for the thumbs Earl. I was most thrilled when I downloaded the photos. I am not usually lucky enough to get something that isn't sitting still. :D :D

Easier? You have to be kidding! At least the hummer is always at the place you selected. You have to chase the Dragons and Damsels around most of the time. One thing they have in common. For each you can set up the location and sit for hours waiting for them to give you a good shot. Very time consuming. :-D

Thank you so much Greg. I hope you are looking soon, now the forest floor will have lots of goodies fallen from the trees and the cool wet encourages all sorts of lichens and mushrooms. And of course there are brightly colored leaves that have fallen or still on the overhang of mossy ground. :-D

Glad you're finally getting some hummers, Corolyn, and you have some good shots as well! They're about to migrate across the gulf on a non-stop flight. They're amazing creatures. Keep your feeders up after they're gone, and you might have some wintering western hummers come to visit. :-)

Yes but that's what dragon hunting is about!

Yes about the feeders. I just noticed on my walkabout that they needed filling. I had filled the one in the photos above only a few days ago.

I know, I know Doc. We went Dragon and Damsel hunting in Shelby Forest just north of Memphis from when I was 12 till I was in college. Mostly for Dad as he was collecting for the head of Entomology, Doc Smith. I have some precious memories of catching some of the prizes on those hunts.

Ours need filling every couple of days or so. Even if they're not empty, the sugar sours fast in this heat.

I can tell you had a great relationship with your father. My dad was busy with business. He had a very responsible position with a large company. Lots of stress. My Granddad was my buddy. When we got together we had a great time.

Both of my Grandfathers were dead before I was born. My Great Grandfather had had a stroke and lived with his grand daughter my Mother's Mother. The only thing he could say was no and when excited "Boy O Boy O Boy" and the more excited he got the more Boy O Boys he said. If you would like to hear some stories I have some to share PM. Papa and I were close. I was the 4th daughter and the closest in resemblance to mom. I would follow him around asking interesting questions about what he was doing. I learned a lot from him. My sisters always had their heads in books. Which is not a bad thing I did it too but outside was my special learning place.
