Since LPurchke is very close, I'll tell.
It's a small Italian pastry called Sfogliatelle. Pronounced, Sfiadelle.
If i sent you one as a prize, it would probably be stale by the time you got it. But, you can probably pick it up at a nearby Italian bakery in CT.

Wow! You spelled it right. I had to look it up to get the correct spelling. Excellent!
We were in Uncle Giuseppe's yesterday, shopping for Easter stuff. I saw them and loved the texture so we bought a couple. When I got it home I took pictures of it. My wife thought I was crazy. She always thinks that.
Yay me ! Google is wonderful. I wasn't leaving my house til I got it! Ill go to Carlos Bakery in Hoboken and reward myself with one!!!!lol

My daughter is only 13 but has been baking for a few years She has made gorgeous cakes for parties for up to 100. She watches all those baking shows and has been to Carlos Bakery so I see this stuff on tv all the time. Never would have thought of that had you not given the hint tho. Funny ... You should start a thread like that!!!!!

Maybe she can team up with my wife, step-daughter, and daughter-in-law. All very creative. I told my wife to go into business when she retires.
Here's some of their handiwork:
George of the Jungle B'day cake by my Step-daughter.
Hawaiian Luau B'day cake. Step-d again
Friend's Baby's Birthday-by my wife (made the chocolate pops
Red Wagon Centerpieces 4 my nephew's Christening
Not a Football (Easter Egg) - by my wife.
wow very nice! this is one mine made last year... Took 5 days to make. For 75 people . fondant cake with handmade and hand painted seashells. the guy at the Chocolate Duck ( a store here that sells all baking stuff and makes cakes. ) said she could've charged at least 800 for it.... I paid 300 dollars for a cake that fed 20 people for her birthday because I didn't want my kitchen a mess..... Lots of money to be made in that business but photography is a lot neater.!

That is some cake! Not even taking into consideration her age.
My wife doesn't believe that cakes like that are worthwhile. I don't think she realizes, as you pointed out, that a cake like that could be up to $800. Your daughter certainly has a future there.
She'll probably become a teacher. Lol.
I hope you are keeping photographic records of these.
Wait. Chocolate Duck. Is that the store in, or near Farmingdale?

Sand. Didn't even think of that. What did she use? Sugar? Brown sugar? Real sand?
