Lots if ideas and this is what UHH is all about. Can you slide the two parts together such that the grooves line up right.

lay face down line up groves as best you can on not used side. Apply packaging tape. you'll still hear the clicks twice for every revolution

Try E6000, an industrial glue sold at Hobby Lobby.

Just exactly how would you keep the glue from squishing out of the break and not getting into the record grooves? The goal is not only to repair the record, but also for it to continue to be a playable!

Nothing will work for that application as the glue will end up in the groves, if glued it would be only a wall hanger.

I believe you can since the break was clean with no flaking of edge material. Also, 78rpm record grooves are coarser and deeper than tthe modern 45 & 33 1/3 rpm vinyls.

If it was me, I would not waste my time trying this. I,too, have a couple of Wurlitzer jukeboxes and have had records break in my hand for no apparent reason. And one was a mint copy of Gene Vincent's Be Bop a Lula. To replace it now could cost around $300.00. I like the song, but not enough to buy it at that price.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I have passed them on to my friend. I think he will eventually look for another copy. He is an active seller on eBay and can keep an active search for the record.

FYI:

The needle will take a beating and if it's an industrial strength type and lives, the record will chip at the crack. Like I said, it's a one time repair.

There was a man in Maryland who had an old juke box and he rigged up that looked just like it was flipping and turning records but all they did was turn and the needle came close enough to look origional. After all that was going on it played computerized music.

It looked good and if you didn't look real close at the needle being a fraction away from the record, you'd never know.

Lots of patience using a small brush in a well lit area, I think it's possible.

I have a friend who broke cleanly in half a mint condition 78rpm record. Apparently, he has not been able to find a replacement. And he is not short of hair-brained tasks to tackle.

He asked me what would be the best glue to attempt a repair. What ever I could think of had apparent shortcomings re application. I surmised that a short setting time super type glue (that is quite liquid in viscosity) might be the best to try. The issue I see with this is whether he can apply the glue accurately across the record edge in sufficiently short time before it starts setting up. Also, no glue must ooze out onto the record groves. The only good news that I see is he is only concerned about playing one side. The record is used on an old Wurlitzer jukebox.

Any suggestions besides keeping a search on eBay for another copy?
I have a friend who broke cleanly in half a mint c... (show quote)

You can get thicker versions at a woodworkers specialty store like Rockler or Woodcraft and the spray to quick set it- spray from the back side he doesn't care about. It'll catilize almost instantly.

This might be of interest. I remembered seeing it on a website called thegrommet.com. Good luck.

Hey, your avatar looks a lot like mine, but you're obviously a more gutsy pilot than I was, doing a steep turn so close to the ground. Mine was taken at 30,000 feet. Much more room for error!
Cheers

Is that a Vampire? We would see them flying around when I lived in Beirut Lebanon back in the '60's

Yes, it's a Vampire T11, the two seater trainer version developed from the single seat fighter (which we also flew in the RAF training program).
