time has proven that the trickle down theory allows for so much skimming along the way that little reaches those at the bottom. the loss of union power, tax brakes for the rich and corperations, and conservative fiscal policy's have rood and screwed the middle and working classes.

Come on I'm waiting for this article to be refuted with facts.
I hope this doesn't turn into a pissing match.

But this article supports my stand after 9/11 how can u start a war but cut your inflow of money at the same time.
How can you realistically say you want to cut the deficit yet decrease your income at the same time.
Please give solid logical evidence, and maybe this little mishap is why
the Kochs have had a change in their stance on corporate welfare.
Their words not mine.

Have you read the article? Its short, sized just right for you. :-D

It seems that Sam Brownback paid Arthur Laffer, he of the infamous Laffer Curve, some $85K for a three-day seminar on implementing this theory. For a good explanation of the Curve see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laffer_curve

It would seem that the big problem with utilizing this concept would be finding the proper tax rate. Apparently Sam and his boys guessed wrong. Of course it was only a guess, and if a higher rate would result in more revenue no self-respecting "conservative" would agree to a TAX INCREASE! So, Brother Sam is trying to fix things with a sales tax increase, of course, and an increase in the cigarette tax. Sales taxes are inherently regressive, but hey!, as long as the top earners and corporations are kept happy!

Another problem with using the Laffer Curve is that the success or failure of this "faith based" experiment comes with huge risk. Kansas is a prime example of a failure. Whether Sam will learn from Kansas' dismal fiscal state is another matter. Let's hope that the other States will profit from Sam's colossal failure.

Agreed! Don't smoke. As a recovering smoker I can attest to the difficulty in quitting cigs; I did it a thousand times before I finally succeeded some 25 years ago.

As far as "welfare rats" how do you know that the smokers you saw are on the dole? Got that welfare radar, do you?

Got anything to add to the discussion?

Yes, because they are new in the neighborhood and told me and others so.

So then how about someone who is apt to do so find out what percentage of the federal budget goes to welfare etc.
I personally know of a woman who has been out of work for two years.
She was employed in marketing, company shut down. She can't find work currently at what she did so I suggested she try other avenues at considerably less pay. Yes there are some who abuse the system but there are those legitimately in need. By the way she is 58yrs old.
But let's try and stay on point. Maybe we can all really learn something if we can keep our emotions out of it.

That is who it should be there for. My problem is if I screw up and go to Winco on the first of the month in the middle of the day I have to wait in line for 30 minutes and watch myriads of young, heavily tattooed, don't know how much that costs but I bet it ain't free, able bodied, all races swiping snap cards for groceries and paying cash for cartons of cigarettes, beer, wine and junk food for the kiddies. BTW, the ones doing that far out number the grandmas and people with obvious physical disabilities.

All the welfare programs combined, snap, medicaid, etc come to about 6% of the gross federal budget.
The real money is the military spending
Just as a side note, 3% of the federal budget is spent on corporate subsides and that doesn't include monies lost through tax breaks and loop holes.

What percentage of the corporate subsidies help provide jobs? If you aren't paying taxes you can grow your business and hire people. You guys always seem to only see one side. The wrong side.
