I would like comments/suggestion on a long telephoto bridge camera such as the Nikon P900, or the P610 for wildlife photos.
Thanks in advance.

The Sony HX400v runs a close second to the Nikon. In digital, it goes to 2400mm equivalent and the lens is a Zeiss design. It's also $200.00 less at B&H.

Digital vs optical zoom, there is a difference.

Lot of difference. I didn't realize the P900 would zoom that far optically. Makes the $200.00 price difference worth it.

Anybody hear when they will be on the shelves??? Cannot find the camera anywhere. All are in pre-order status. Nikon gives no indication when they will be out???

I have both the Nikon P900 and the Panasonic DMC-FZ70 and both are great for wildlife photography. I can recommend both. Here is a comparison for your convenience.

Not only is Best Buy showing it available for order online, it's $100.00 less than B&H. And, like B&H, it qualifies for free shipping. Don't everybody stampede their website. Wish I could justify spending the bucks.

I have had the P600 since it came out, and the P520 before that. I shoot nothing but Wildlife. It's macro capabilities are exceptional. Here are a few examples of what I got with mine and no special processing-very basic Photoshop elements. I had some decent distances on all. You might lose some quality at the long end depending on conditions. I also shoot with a D7100 now, but the P series are excellent value for the $! I still use mine regularily.

In my area (St. Louis), Best Buy still lists the P900 at $600 and as "Sold Out on line".
