All my life I never heard of push boats but someone responded
with that I thiught they were pulling my leg so I looked up rushboats and got an education There are boats that can only push no tuging capibilitys.I have 2 in my collection and now I know as push boats

Neat photos. Both of the ones in the last 2 photos can push and pull. I see them every year on the Mississippi River up here in WI. When I am in the area of the lock and dams when they are going through, it is neat to stop and watch them as it is cool how they do it.

Buchanan 12 is not set up to pull look astern but when I it it usually is pushing 15+ barges

In the Kannawa valley in West By God ( West Virginia) the boats usually are pushing 21 barges most of the time coal.
Photo Guy you would be interested in this, I was a challange when one of the boats was in an emergency and had to call for Fire or EMS help.

Most are pushing oil to tank farms along the Hudson 80% also cencrete, trap rock the occasional crain

Now that's some heavy cargo they are moving. Up this way it is usually grains or coal.

All the tugs on the Nav. channel in okla. that I have seen are push boats

I grew up on New York Harbor and nrver heard the term push boat until I poster my first post a few days ago but I see the reality of the term. I have lead a sheltered life.
