Suggestions for use of Canon 5DSR

I have rented a Canon 5DSR for a trip to Spain. Excited to see how 50 mpix makes any difference. I rented it so I won't have to fight my wife for the 5Dmk3 AND because I want to try it before I buy one.

I have heard that I need to microfocus my lenses (I do that anyway) Use higher shutter speeds and lower ISOs. I would especially like feedback on how this camera does on tripods. I prefer to travel with a manfrotto travel tripod, weighs 3 lbs and is nice. Will that be stable enough or do I tote my larger tripod. If you have experience with this body I welcome comments. I chose the "r" as I don't think I will have problems with moire with landscape subjects. Yes I have 64 gig chips and a good laptop with large external HD's. I process photos each night on a trip.

Bill you will love the camera! Files have unbelievable detail. 3 shot HDR blends have presented memory problems for my PC which runs on 12g RAM. I advise you to test process as much as you can before the trip. So far I'm limited to CC HDR Pro, Photomatix Pro fails to process for me.

Canon warns that camera shake is amplified due to the high resoultion of the camera, but I haven't found any issue that a steady tripod and remote shutter releases dosen't control. I would choose which tripod to travel with based on camera/lens weight and not worry about it further.

Hope this helps. Looking forward to your image posts.

Well, that helps in a way. What you are really telling me is that I'll want to buy one after I use it!! My wife would say you are not helpful! I did order the rental with three extra days so that I can try out and find tripod of choice. You having any problem with sharpness when hand holding? I am planning on taking a 16- 35L; 24-105L, 85mm f1.2L and 70-200 f2.8L I might use all on a tripod but will handhold all as well. I appreciate your comments. You had any moire issues?

I am excited to see this post and am hopeful you will report on your experience. Yes I have GAS for this camera and have been able to keep it under control but you may have got it going again. I'm sure that is what Canon hopes for. Please let us know your findings!

I remember when the 5Ds/r was released, Canon adamantly stated, "Tripod only!" Your mileage might vary.

You will love the clarity and detail of the images. I use it primarily for macro. I particularly love the rendering of focus stacked images. I have used the camera for general, hand held work also. The results have been stellar, but I would expect them to be. Using image stabilized lenses, and goosing the ISO (when I need to) consistently sharp images are possible even hand held, except in very low light. That said, a tripod is still the best sharpness insurance.
