Wet suit is because our water is pretty cold. The fins are because this guy and most people that do ride waves there either body surf, or knee ride. Surfing isn't really recommended here because the waves break right on shore or just a few feet from shore.

My cousin lives in LA and she said the water is so poluted at Santa Monica now that surfers are usually the only people in the water.

There was a sewage spill there recently so yeah, I wouldn't go in the water there either. But I really don't like cold water so I don't go in the water anywhere. LOL I live near Huntington Beach and there have been a bunch of shark attacks here too lately. It's not safe and it's too cold. You won't see me out there.
