Help with USB connection

Someone please help!
It seems that every time I try to connect a USB cable I get it the wrong way around on the first try.
It happens approximately 90% of the time despite the odds dictating that it should be more like 50%.
Why is that?
Also, does anyone have a mathematical formula that explains how a bunch of cables can get hopelessly entangled depite being carefully coiled and put away?

Is there an 8 year old neighbor kid you can call?

Just go to Murphy's law. That should explain ever thing.

Your post has two questions, my best guess to the first is "pilot error".
For whatever reason, your eye leads you to the end that won't work. Each end is slightly different, though they look the same. If they were equal it would never matter.
It should help your feelings that somewhere, there is someone who grabs the right end 90% of the time!

As to the second, feel good again!

If you look at the end that plugs into the USB on the PC, there is a space that goes up. The lower side of the plug has a spacer in it to keep you from putting it in upside down.

White dots of paint for me on the USB cable connections and some odd ties with velcro closures to tame the wires. And wireless everywhere I can. Good luck dear....you're fighting a losing battle ya know :(

Rob, have you ever noticed that most USB plugs are masked on one side with the USB symbol. Considering your current place of residence, you need to turn your devices top for bottom and plug in the cord with the symbol down. On the top half of the planet, we just leave the devices alone and plug in the cable with the symbol up.

OK Bill, so I flipped my laptop and you're right, now the cables slot in much more often. Trouble is, now I can't operate the keyboard or see the screen.....Got any more bright ideas?

Use lots of duct tape to secure the cord to the keyboard; now turn it back over. As to the screen, try a mirror. Oh, you might have to turn the mirror over.

It's my guess Mrs. Winterose has 'looked' at it. This is sufficient to mess with any cable no matter how neatly coiled and secured.

I've never fathomed out how Mrs. N can take a ball of wool and turn it into a comfortable and functional garment, yet get so many knots in a 3m Iron lead that I can't tell where one stops and the next starts.

I've never fathomed out how Mrs. W can take a perfectly serviceable credit card and turn it into a mumbling mess!

Those connectors are for the other side of the computer. (And a tip of the hat to Abbott and Costello.)
To get serious, put a dab of paint of the upper side of the connector (not on the portion that inserts into the receptacle).
