I just purchased a new plugin today from Topaz Labs, photoFXlab. Supposedly within one plugin, it gives you access to ALL of the Topaz Labs plugins you have installed on your computer, cutting down on the workflow time you might normally have spent going from one filter to another. I've opened it up just long enough to activate the installation, but have never used it. I'm wondering if anyone here has done so, and if that's the case, how do you like it? Any tips or tricks?
Supposedly it works as a Standalone Editor as well and has Layers capability with "Smart Edge" brushes to paint on effects. It would be a steep learning curve experiment to forego Photoshop altogether and see if I can create a useful image completely from within a Topaz interface. Ah well, winter is coming up soon ...... perhaps someday.
Ohhh boy! Quick 5 minute tutorial and I'm up and running. Layers and Masking capabilities are going to open a whole new world. It's really quick.
If the Cloud Version of PS CC all of a sudden changed their rates exorbitantly, this could actually work as a Stand Alone photo editor.
It is my preferred (only) way to operate the topaz modules from Lightroom . But, I only own a few of the full inventory of Topaz modules and I don't normally need any of them after DPP and LR5 processing (or just LR5).
I have an older version so not sure if yours has InstaTone.
If it has give it a whirl. Colours your target image in similar shades to one you choose from the web or your own picture library. Used with layer mask can be be really good.
Have fun my man
So glad you posted! I was thinking about it, now I'm going to give it a go.

OK, OK, I got it at the intro price an haven't used it. To mix old sayings, "old dogs learning new tricks and breaking old habits die hard" Which Tutorial?
FX Lab is a gathering of all plugins in one finger reach ... for me it will be a new trick altho owned, but not used, for a couple of years. Thank you for the push Bob.
Speaking of new tricks learned, in PSE-13... when working with JPEG cameras, the image can be opened in "as Raw." This gives the edit-with-PSE-13-only people the, tho abbreviated, illumination and color control usually associated with raw editors such as LR or After Shot Pro or Topaz Clarity. Makes PSE-13 a much more powerful tool.

If you order it from the TopazLabs store, use the coupon code kelbyone and you will receive 25% off the full price. For me, it went from $79.99 to $59.99.

I can't remember which one I watched, but if you go to YouTube and type in photofxlab tutorial, they have about 7 of them. I chose one that had the word "Introduction to" in the title.

This is a bit off topic, but....
Does anyone here use or have any comments on Topaz De-Noise?
I don't generally have a noise problem in my photos, but sometimes the ones I really want to improve have it and I have found that neither PSE 10 nor the Noise filter in Topaz Adjust helps very much. Of course, and I'll be the first to admit it, I may not be using either one properly.
Thanks.
Jim
Jim - I use Topaz DeNoise mostly in workflows where I also apply one of the other Topaz filters. It also depends on the source camera of the original image. My older 7D was much noisier above ISO-1000 than my 5DIII at ISO-5000. A run through DeNoise with some adjustments and tweeks can achieve a very 'glassy' finish from what had been a grainy (noisy) original image.
I've only recently started to process my RAW (Canon CR2) images in Lightroom in an effort to save time vs Canon's DPPv4. I read an article yesterday that RAW presents a finer grain of noise that is easier to clean than a JPEG. I'm going to have reach into my files of RAW images from that 7D and see if I can verify this idea in my own copies of these tools. DeNoise has a few defaults including one for RAW. I have a few grainy low-light images from that 7D that never did reach their potential in the first round of post processing...

Denoise is the first step in my work flow. My Sony 20 mp HX50v has a small sensor, tho advanced stack design. When examining UHH photos, most of the displayed photos could use this Topaz Denoise Toothbrush to clean up the noise scuzzy stuff.
A side by side study with side by side photos states : "in comparing Topaz DeNoise to Lightroom, the Topaz version retains more detail, while producing an overall smoother final photo. My verdict? Topaz DeNoise wins! It takes a bit more time and effort to open another program just to reduce noise, but if its an image you really care about, its probably worth the effort"

Thanks for the link, Donald. I wouldn't agree with the "producing an overall smoother final photo" comment. Just look at the bright parts of the sky. I got the impression that with a few tweaks to brightness and Clarity the LR effort would probably come out looking better.

Thanks Bob! You're the best!
:-D
Been using Topaz for years along with several others. Have it plugged in to LR. Great programs.
