Dilemma on how to spend $1,000

For reasons that are not important I got a $1,000 credit at a camera store that I normally do not visit and I would like some suggestions. I just sold all my Nikon equipment (too much weight and space) and got the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark ii and I have 15 mm (Leica/Panasonic), 12-40 Pro, 20mm (Pan), and the 75mm (Oly).

I was thinking of getting an even smaller camera that uses the same lenses like one of the Olympus Pen series (perhaps E-P5 or 7) or the Panasonic GM 5. Or getting another lens but I don't need the telephoto Pro lens (I do mostly street and landscape)...perhaps the 12mm but I have the 15. Or wait a few weeks and get the new Olympus 10 Mark ii (announced this week) but that doesn't seem to add much to my M-5 except another body. The other two are smaller so at least it may serve a different purpose. I also own the very small Leica C camera.

Please feel free to make other suggestions and I thank you in advance.

Hi David. Wished I could give you an answer. I just wished I had good problems, like you.
I'll watch this for awhile and maybe learn something.

I don't know why I would do it, but I would find a young person who had the basics down and needed a good camera and could not afford one & get one for them. I do know why, I believe that if I can help someone achieve then I am doing good.

My go to lens for portraits is the Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8. Sale prices on that lens are often under $1000.

Put it towards a 7-14 f2.8. If you like to do landscapes...this is the lens you'll want.

Oh, and welcome to the m4/3 family.

David, before you make a decision, I would suggest that you look at the Sony a6000 (ICLE 6000). I won't go into details to try to sell you on the camera. It's your decision; I'll let the camera speak for itself.

Why could he get an A6000 when he has an EM5II? Weird recommendation. I agree with CF - the 7-14 is a great lens to have if you are into landscape.

As good as the a6000 is, I still question why you would recommend it as you can't share lenses with it. By the way, how well does the a6000 work it work when it's raining outside?

Just fine with an Op-Tech rain jacket. Actually, about as well as my FM2n or other five or six cameras (although the Autographic won't fit in a rain jacket).

I can't help it if he bought a small frame camera; I thought 110's were obsolete. The Oly IS a great camera, but I would still be inclined to do as I've done - sell my other gear and concentrate on an APS-C camera, especially one that makes all its own sensors. Who knows? Maybe one day, I'll decide the a-6000 is to small and go for an A77***.

Sounds like you have enough cameras to me my man so suggest a trip to Vegas and blow it on the crap tables in the company of a good time gal who can suck like a siphon pump!
Leave some spare for a decent amount of coke some good grass and a few bottles of Jack Daniels.
I believe I have solved your problem fella so enjoy ya self!

It's funny how the new em10ii looks better at ISO 6400 than the a6000. So much for that middle of the road sensor ;-)

1000 credit at a Store you would normally not frequent is a difficult dilemma to be in.

Three years ago I found my self in a similar situation.

It was at a Gun Shop not a Camera Shot. It took me three years and an additional $1000 to solve the problem. Ended up with a really nice 20 Gage Shot gun in the end.

Good luck. Hope it does not cost you too much money. ;-}

Thank you for your comments and you seem to be very knowledgeable on the mft system so I would like to follow up directly with you if that's ok. I do not want the 7-14 lens because it's very hard to put a polarizer on it and it's a bit bulky and I really don't need that wide a lens. If anything I would buy the 12 mm prime and have the 12 and the 15mm.

My question is whether any of the Pen cameras are worthy of consideration (PL 7 etc.)? Or should I get the new EM 10 or the 12 lens? I know you can't really answer for me but you seem to be up on the system so I'm looking for your advise...perhaps you have another idea I haven't thought of. Perhaps the EM-1? I believe you have that one. If you want to see some of my work my website is Davidhermanphotography.com. Thanks for taking the time.

David
