Best way to eliminate picture haze using PSE 13

I've taken numerous pictures with a 600mm lens and most pictures have a light haze, most likley due to the distance of the subject from the lens. I'm using PSE 13 as my editor so any suggestions on the best way to remove the haze would be helpful.

Duplicate the layer
use color average
reverse the color
reduce opacity to 0 (zero)
Progressively augment the opacity
Use a mask to limit where the layer effect is applied.

This is the fastest way to do it.

Oh, you have a post processing section on this board with a few qualified folks to answer you for detailed instructions on other methods than the 'jack-hammer approach'
.

Since it's a light haze - and assuming that you can open the image in ACR - you might find that Clarity and Contrast are enough to remove it. Typically, the mix that you're after is to give it more Clarity than Contrast (it depends on the image, but figures of 30-50 for Clarity and 10-20 for Contrast would be typical).

With some images the colours could end up a bit strong when you turn up Contrast, and if that happened you could desaturate a little to restore a more natural look. That could involve global desaturation, or alternatively, if it was only specific colours that were being over-boosted, you could subdue them in the HSL section.

In the case of atmospheric haze in landscape shots you might find that it responds to a reduction in Highlights. And if you have an HSL section, you will find that darkening and desaturating blue will help (that last one often improves skies in general, so long as you don't overdo it).

If the atmospheric haze is pronounced you'll find that it's predominantly blue, so if you desaturate blue you might find that what lies behind the haze ends up a bit colourless. You would then have to find appropriate ways to introduce some of the colours that should be there.

In the case of hills or mountains seen in the background of landscape shots, it might be worthwhile to select them and give them special treatment (i.e. more Clarity and Contrast than the rest of the image, more of a reduction in Highlights and/or overall brightness, more desaturation).

If you have Lightroom (I know that wasn't your question), you can simply open in LR and adjust the haze slider. I haven't used PSE for a long time. Doesn't it have ACR? If so, maybe the version of ACR has the haze slider also - I'll leave that for someone more familiar with PSE 13 to address.
