What is it on and how big is it? If it is on the side of a tree it may be sap oozing out of a Yellowbellied Sapsucker hole.

Actually it is crystallized sap oozing from a very, very old and stressed ( been very hot in my neck of the woods)
cherry tree. Some people call it a "sap hook", the process is called Gummosis.
Took the picture with Canon 60mm Macro, backlit. The actual sap hook is about one inch long.
Isn't nature grand!!!!
