I love Nebula, but always fail when I try to create one.

If you have the desire, please show and tell how it might be done.

My attempt came from a star shot I took last week, a couple of drop shots from the weekend, and a texture from mercurycode.

Stars from here

Drops from here

Texture from here (thank you MercuryCode! - this is a really nice place to go for textures)

I used photoshop to composite the images with a variety of blending modes.

Good luck and I would love to see what you guys come up with!!

Bill,

This may be a stupid question, but I downloaded your .psd image file. Looking at it makes me think the drops are drops of wax that splattered when hitting a surface. Is that correct or am I just totally crazy? Thank you.

Best Regards,
Tom

I should have put label the layers, Yes that's what it was.

Hue/Saturation, wrapped, little air brush, reduced opacity, rotated. Copied three times. I should have rotated each copy, hine site. LOL

Very cool -- yeah, I like the idea of using a key component and repeating it like that. And then as you mention, doing other things to the component to make them unique, rotating, perhaps resizing, and perhaps even giving a different color cast. Those drops of milk made it to space!

I only had a problem with you star photos, White on White, LOL
Glad you enjoyed it.

Looks to me like you had fun with it. If I did it again I would have chosen a texture that wasn't white like that, perhaps a blue cast one or some such. As it was, if I remember right, I used a different blending mode (subtract or something, it wasn't subtract though) on that one so that the white was pretty much ignored.

But having said that, I like the white cloud look that you got from it.

edit -- one thing I did horribly wrong in my version was that I kept sharpening and flattening and then doing more. I ended up over-sharpening it pretty badly, just goes to show that you need to pixel-peep while you are working to see the "real" effects of some of the steps.
