I will second Bob Malarz's endorsement. I was given a copy of this encyclopedic series many years ago - part of the reason I have always been passionate about photography. They are excellent books and the offer is a fine one. Highly recommended.

I have the same set... It's the second edition, dating to the early 1980s. I read them all... They were a good foundation for film photography back in the day.
Most of the concepts transfer readily to digital photography, although a newbie would need to supplement with other sources.
The best reason to have these books? The great pictures in them!
