"Freedom from Religion" group

I started a thread last week with a really lame title about my little town in New Mexico: Belen. It t***slates from Spanish to "Bethlehem".
In 1992 the family of a prominent citizen donated a Nativity scene to the town, which was placed in a park also donated by that family to commemorate her service to the town.
When I first moved here I commented that this town had guts to openly display a Nativity scene created to last and be seen every day. Well, a "concerned citizen" contacted the group from Wisconsin, "Freedom from Religion" who has lodged a complaint.
Today, about ten percent of the population (6000) met at the park for a protest and to show support for the town to fight the complaint. It was more than just religious leaders present. State Senators, very prominent business leaders, the Mayor and council members all spoke, with cheers and applause.
My grandson (age 16) was interviewed by an Albuquerque TV station, and very articulately said, "I don't understand what the problem is. The town was named hundreds of years ago by the Spaniards, and this display has nothing to do with the way we are governed. It's an illustration of the town's name!"
Idaho lover posted an article about a school in Kansas that this group forced to remove a picture of Jesus, which had hung in the hallway for decades. I didn't join that thread because RixPix had already derailed the conversation, and may do the same to this one.
I may be too old to understand, but unless you are muslime, how can an inanimate display celebrating the origin of the town's name be offensive.
These people are like the guy that built his house by the airport, and then complained about the noise.
It is still a free country. You can say wh**ever you want about anything you want, but that should not extend to forcing your narrow minded ideas onto the majority.
End of rant.

Welcome to The American Taliban.

One the one side you have those who wish to remove any sign of religion from everything, everything, and on the other you have those who want to go back to the Old Testament, but the funny thing is the want to pick and choose what they believe in. Either way, they are extremists and think they are right, the only right.

Enjoy The Circus! S-

I remember the "Silent Majority" which was chastised for letting the extremists get the upper hand. Those extremists are using the freedoms which were paid for with blood to try to castrate the country!

Life is a balance. There is no extreme Left or Right, there's thinking! S-

There will be a terrible travesty of everything that is right and good if this group prevails. By the way, any snow yet up your way?

There has been terrible travesties going on long enough and well past push back time. Snow at least two weeks away at the claim site and in the process of closing it up for the winter. About six to eight weeks for here

I started a thread last week with a really lame ti... (show quote)

Be it known, the minority now controls what the majority
can do. This is satin working to remove all evidence of Christ & His people. They speak so loud & have unlimited funds to go to court that the majority can't fight them or just don't have the heart to fight. When they finally have their way this will be a nation without law. Christ said, "come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matt. 11:28
Some may even take issue with what I have said here.

This country was founded on 'freedom of religion'.

These 'freedom from religion' nuts have no right to even exist.

Being a Vet, I will defend their right to exist---BUT, I will do everything I can to make them powerless!
