I will be selling several lenses for canon soon.
My question because I was once ripped off on eBay for a canon 5d 3 and lens for 2800$ . It took awhile and much trauma I was reimbursed by pay pal.

What methods of payment are most people using? PayPal? Or some other means?
I tend to trust people , especially members of hedgehog, but burned once shame on you , burned twice , you know

Any advice on selling and buying out there would be nice for everyone
Thanks

Great topic. I have a few very positive transactions both buying and selling. Both parties had enough trust and all went well.

What I have frequently seen though, is the presumption that validated payment before the item is shipped seems to "proper."

Think about it, both parties are at risk for the same amount of money. How about you send me the item and if all is well...

Either all concerned parties need to use a third party, like Paypal, or trust...and hope for the best.

I have had good experiences with Paypal over the course of several years.

Of course it does not put the money into the sellers hands until the item is received by the customer, and all is well.

I feel comfortable using Paypal for purchases and for selling.

So PayPal will hold the money until the buyer is satisfied, and do you have to let them know you are buying an item and not to pay them until you are happy?

With my eBay problem PayPal was owned by eBay so a buyers agreement was inferred. But with individuals how would pay pal work.

I'm just trying to get clarity here so everyone is safe

Paypal is no longer owned by eBay. I trust Paypal and use it all the time. No bad experiences.

I would be willing to bet that they will always start off in favor of the buyer, but as a seller you have rights with them as well.

I have been on both sides of the sale and have no complaints.

As a buyer I am more comfortable using paypal, for another point of view. Can't wait to see what you have!

I have used PayPal since the late '90s when I had an IT consulting business and could invoice my customers easily. I have never had an issue with PayPal, and prefer it for most online shopping.

Not really "until", but at for sure they hold it till the item is delivered, and then the buyer has a time limit until the money is released to the seller, it was always based on past selling history on Ebay, and could be different depending on the seller.

If the buyer does not open a case to request a refund within a reasonable amount of time, then things progress and money gets released automatically.

I have never sold anything, nor purchased from an individual on Pay Pal. I've had some problems with businesses and PP has always come through to my satisfaction.

I've been buying and selling on ebay for years without a problem, but all it takes is one bad, pricey experience to scare you away. I always use PayPal, although I hate paying a fee to both ebay and PP.

Personal pickup with cash payment is ideal. You could ask for a check and wait for it to clear, but few people would agree to that. Since you got your money back from PP, I would trust it again. PayPal is used worldwide, and people trust it.

If a person has an email address, he can use PayPal. I've sent and received payment that way. Ebay doesn't have to get involved.

Like others, I've never had any issues with PayPal including a canceled order with an eBay vendor. PayPal promptly reimbursed me. My only gripe is paying them the 3% fee when I'm the recipient.
