Hi all just need an opinion I will be going to Disney for a week with the family and two grandkids. Def Will be taking a load of pics and videos, my daughter booked a bunch of breakfasts with Minny,Cinderella ect.ect.ect.
I own a canon 7d mark 2, I will be buying new cards I'm thinking of The lexar pro1066x cf and the lexar pro sd cards, my question is what size should be good enough for some heavy shooting, im thinkinking 128 gb should be good I'll be shooting jpeg and raw.both on large files.
Also should I keep jpes on one card and raw on the other or keep both format's on one card and do a copy on both cards, any advantages to separate them
thanks all the thoughts bill

I would the main question would be: is the card's write speed compatible with that of the camera. Th other parts of the query are those of personal taste.

I put mine on separate cards because of work. The big advantage of putting the raw on one card and the jpeg on another is if a card ever fails you still have a usable image.

Also because jpegs take less space it allows me to use a smaller card in that slot, which saves money on cards. Example a 16gb card in the jpeg slot and a 64gb in the raw slot fill up about the same time. Just change both cards at the same time.

Just my opinion, but I don't use any cards larger than 64gb because I don't want to lose so many images if a card ever fails. I know the chance of that is slim with today's cards, but it has happened in the past and to me it just isn't worth the risk.

I carry a Think Tank card holder that holds 16 cards and just keep it full of cards all the time. It is nylon on the outside with a small strap and a velcro closure. It just folds up on itself.

Doesn't take very much space, so I just buy extra cards, I have 64gb, 32gb, 16gb, and even a few 8gb that I will occasionally put in the jpeg slot. The card holder will fit in my pocket so I always have spare cards available.

As far as brand of card, I'm not sure that it makes very much difference unless you are shooting 5 to 8 frames a second. Even much slower cards keep up with buffering if you are shooting just one or two shots at a time. I have a couple of fast cards for sports photography, but most of my other cards are Patriot, or now Monster, which bought Patriot out. Lots less money and seem to perform pretty well under normal use.

I use the same cards in 32GB size and get about 1000 pictures per card or so. If I were you I'd also purchase the Lexar SD/CF card reader because it's UDMA 7 compliant. I probably wouldn't spend the money for 128GB cards, but the 64GB cards are reasonably priced. The 128GB cards are a little too expensive. I bought my 32GB cards in a 2 pack. I don't like to put all my eggs in one basket in case a lose a card, or it becomes corrupt. Bring a laptop computer and the card reader and download daily so you can reuse the cards if need be. That's what I did when I went to the Galapagos Islands.

I don't shoot raw and jpg's so I don't know the answer to that. I use the method where the CF card is used first and when full the images will be saved on the SD card. Actually, I've never had this happen because I've never filled up the CF card in one shoot. But that's how I set mine up to save images.

What does your camera manufacturer recommend?
That is what I go by.
Mine recommends up to 64G.
So I got an SD card (what mine uses) at a 95 mbs write/read speed.
It really has made a lot of difference in storing speed, and in reading speed to download.

I always go for the biggest recommended or offered, and the fastest I can justify to my needs.

The CF cards are faster than the SD, which empties the buffer faster, so either put RAW to CF and JPEG to SD or write both to the CF with the SD for overflow if you don't have the chance to change cards.
The one huge card sounds great, but if a card fails, gets damaged or lost then you lose a lot of pictures. I have two sets of 32GB and about 4 16GB sets for "just in case". I have never needed them all. But it has been a long time since I took a trip or anything where I couldn't download them to the computer everyday.
That is a good practice, download to a laptop drive frequently, or carry a bunch of smaller cards and keep the cards until you get home and can download. If necessary buy more cards, my wife has done that for her camcorder when she was on a multi day Special Olympic or Girl Scout function. As a result we have a lot of SD cards.

Lots of people worry about card failures but I wonder how many have actually had one fail. I know I haven't and been using them for 18 years (not the same card).

Check this to help you decide.

Most likely very few have failed. But eventually one will and don't want it to be mine when all my shots are on one card. Consequently, I always use multiple smaller capacity cards.

I have both Lexar's and Sandisk

32 gigabyte @ 95 Mb/sec
64 gigabyte @ 160 Mb/sec

I shoot RAW files separately but sometimes I writes to my SD cards in jpg as well to quickly view on a tablet but mostly not.

I would use multiple large cards. Keeping JPEGs and raw on separate cards would make life easier for you later. Or, you can shoot everything on one card and use the other as a backup.

I own a 7d MII and 5D MIII. I use CF UDMA7 64 GB in the 7D M II for its recording speed, particularly when shooting actions sports. I also use SD cards in both.

When I travel I carry a media device for uploading my memory cards. You may want to consider one. It will eliminate the concern of having sufficient memory cards for a trip.

Here's one- there are others:
