Unofficial Advice to all Newcomers

Admin, please don't move this; it REALLY needs to be said.

Recently a number of members (mostly fairly new), have posted messages and/or pictures in the "Main Photography Discussion" section and then responded to answers in a rather course and rude manner. That's fine if you're responding to me; I quite often deserve to be taken down a notch or two. BUT lately a number of these crude responses have been aimed at long time members who are considered experts in the field, who have proven their credibility and/or who have earned the respect of almost everybody on this forum. Some actually serve as moderators of other sections, while some are simply encyclopedic in their knowledge.

SO, before you become angry at some for the tone of his/her response, take a minute, do some research and make sure that you are not being offensive to someone who could well turn out to be the best adviser or mentor you've ever met.

Sorry about the rant, but I just had to get that off my chest.

Also and this can go both ways some members just have wicked or flippant senses of humor and it is sometime misinterpreted by the new or uninitiated. Who might be feel insulted or upset. I found out the hard way but now know to ignore all but personal attacks. It is often also not meant to be personal but just funny or silly. Right...you know who you are...?

Remember, the definition of a gentleman is "someone who does not offend other people unintentionally."

But if you offend someone you pay the price. Is it worth it?

Benjamin Franklin pointed out that if you offend someone in public and make him or her look foolish, then that person will never forgive you. Never.
