I have had the D200 for four years, and I use it for any photographic occasion. I used for weddings and official functions. It has never let me down, and it's still going strong. I also have various lenses all of the same era. Recently I have been toying with idea of upgrading to the D750. But every time I am out using my D200 and go home to have a look of my images, and see how good they are, I sort of think am I going to get better images, if I spend $2450.00 (the going price here in Sydney) if I upgrade, and also the cost of getting the full frame lenses to go with it.
I haven't upgraded yet, and perhaps I will when my faithful D200 starts to wear down.

Great IQ but hated the D7xxx layout.
I like sticking to the D200, 300, 700 & 800 layout.
Makes more sense to me.
Your mileage may vary.

I'm with you. Currently using the 700. Why did they downgrade the 750 body?

I have a D300 & D300S and love them. The layout is perfect I think. But I need better low light results so I bought a used D700. WOW.! It's just a full frame D300 with the same exact control layout. It's all I need, and the low light results are beautiful.

What you expressed about the controls is why people loved the D300/D300s so much and why there is so much desire for a D400. These cameras are so well designed I can't imagine why Nikon had to mess with the package!

Totally agree. I still have my D300-- and love the hefty feel to it. For all the advancements that have been made, it has a set of features that are rarely found on a single DSLR. I, too, wish they had made a D400. I'd have one.

All this talk about how great this camera is makes me want to get one. I actually found one for a good price, I am seriously considering the purchase.

I use a D800 and D700. Lately I find myself using the 700 more. It seems to control noise better and 36 mpx. fills up the buffer to the extent that I miss shots with the 800.

I bought this lens 70-210 recently for $50 and now use all the time with my D200. I discovered a horse ranch in a walking distance from my house and lately been taking a lot of pictures with the lens on my D200. This one is from this morning.

WOW! Great image! I guess I'll have to pull my D200 out of retirement.....

You won't regret it, The D200 is still one of the best cameras Nikon produced with it's Titanium body and a very good sensor, it will be in use for a while yet.

Doesn't someone on the forum here have an "in" with Nikon? They need to know how much a D400 would be appreciated. Although I have moved to FF and shoot with a D800 and D700, I keep a lens (usually the 28-300) on a D7000 to make use of the 1.5 factor. I would like to eventually upgrade the crop sensor to make use of the newer and better software associated with the newer Nikons. When I do upgrade, I would like it to have the same set of controls that the D200 and D300 series cameras had.

Me too. I go out with a Nikkor AF-S 24-70mm on my D700, a AF-D 80-200mm on my D300s and a 105mm f/2.8 in my pocket.

I've read so much about the D200 and it's CCD sensor, that when I saw one in excellent condition for $159, thought it a good idea to buy it and play around. Well, the brown truck delivered this afternoon and I'm happy with the purchase - the camera looks new and running a shutter count shows it only has 3856 clicks on it! My D610 only a year old has more! I thought I had some CF cards in my drawer; I did but the largest was only 32mb - according to the camera, good for 1 RAW shot! So, set quality to JPEG basic, stuck an old 70-210 zoom on it and stepped outside to see what I could get. My office is near an airport and Southwest happened by, so shot a few as it flew past. Below is one of the basic JPEG's - I think it shows that for relatively small money ($159 camera, $85 lens) you can get a great kit that takes very pleasing images! When new, I'm guessing this would have cost over $2k. The D200 is a joy to handle, I love the controls, build quality and crisp, quiet shutter. Hope to post more from this set up after the 32Gb card arrives and I can shoot RAW. Download image for best view.
