Question regarding a hawks' eyes

Does anyone know if a hawk has an "inner" eyelid? In several photos that I recently took, I got a strange white covering over the eyes. In some cases, it was on one eye, in other cases both eyes. I don't think this is simply a case of light reflecting off the eye. No flash was involved and the sun was to camera right. In this case, both eyes were affected.

Yes, they have a "nictitating" translucent membrane for protection of, and to moisten, the eye. Often used when flying to shield against raindrops, bugs etc.

Perfect. That explains why a few of my shots are acceptable except for the odd coloration of the eyes.

Or, they could be from Treepusher's yard. His neighbors can be a little different than the rest of the world. Maybe some of that plutonium fertilizer he has contaminated the critters this bird ate. Beware of the expansion of this potential world domination effect.

Wow, have I been seeing too many of Treepusher's photos or what!!!???

No worries. I know exactly what you are referring to. I'll have to get the geiger counter out to check for possible contamination.
