Yeah, but, as they say (whoever "they" is) - the devil is in the details. The easiest solution is not to claim any magnification at all, but show a measurement of image scale in the frame. Something like |<-- 50um-->|.
Since there are no rules, I'll continue to use an estimation of lateral magnification. Everyone else can report - should you wish to do so - magnification in whatever manner you like.
I kinda like "It's a whole lot bigger on the screen than in real life!"
