Had just fed the birds and poured a cup of coffee on a recent morning, when I heard this very loud unfamiliar bird sound coming in over my little bird listening device. Looked outside but could not locate the source. I sure didn't want this one getting away without at least identifying the bird, so grabbed the camera, quickly changing to the long lens and rushed out the back door still wearing my slippers. The sound was coming from a stand of trees close to the water and finally caught a glimpse of a crow size bird partially hidden in the foliage. After a few minutes finally got a decent view of it, so started clicking, as it kept moving from branch to branch. To my surprise, it was a young Cooper's Hawk. I see a few from time to time ,but never one this vocal, as it was keeping almost a continuous racket going. Lighting was fairly dark under the trees so had to use a setting of iso6400, f5.6, 1/640-1/800sec. at 300mm so sure it will be grainy on download, but at that time was just trying to make an identifying capture!
You caught a great moment with its take-off, Swamp-Cork. Super shot!
