This image is of the star Altair and the star field around it. Used a Full Frame Sony A99 @ ISO 1600 for 3 sec and took 9 overlapping images which were then combined into a panorama. The center star, Altair, is over exposed, but the rest of the field is not. The resultant image is 11236 x 7039 pixels and covers an area of about 13 x 9 degrees. In the resulting image, tiny star trails could be seen. Used Focus Magic to reduce movement by 10 pixels effectively removing the star trails.
For comparison, I am including a non-panoramic image of the star Delta Cygni (also in the constellation Cygnus). It shows two open star clusters which are marked on the image.
It should be obvious to see the effect of the panorama on the star sizes. In reality they are the same size (pixel wise), but in an image that covers 4x the area, the stars size, compared to the whole area, leaves them much smaller. The thumbnail will not show many stars in the panorama. They are too small to show up and it will need to be downloaded. If your monitor you are using is not high resolution, again, you won't see as many stars.
Wonderful shots of Altair & Delta Cygni Jim. I just saw the Summer Triangle with corrections.
