We had a GREAT time out in the desert!
Staying up all (most anyway :-) ) night watching the meteor shower, admiring the Milky Way, playing with cameras and overall just having a great time :-D

Quite a few people didn't make the trip (ahem, Craig :-D )

Great shots Gordon, I'm sorry I missed such a great trip.
But as you mentioned, had I come the clouds would have too.

You were missed, but we made it through :-)

Now comes the work :-)
I like Sonny's idea of making a time lapse. So that goes on the to-do list LOL

Outstanding work.
Sorry to hear that Craig didn't make it.
I thought he was pretty excited about being in the middle of nowhere looking for scorpions to put down Sonny's back.
Nice set of shots, both 1 and 2.
Whos that guy with all the blond hair?
Wow, I wish I coulda made it.
I'm going to post a quick set of what I had last night and just how much light pollution I have on a moonless night.
It's a wonder I pull anything down.
;)

Great shoots Gordon, love your bud and the meteor.
If she didn't know better Annette could swear that was me in the 3rd shot.

I have a pile of post-its with frame numbers to deal with that have meteors passing through them.

Here is one of my favorites already.

Red sky at night,
and it was a delight!!!
:-D

I love the color of the Perseids, definitely different than the other meteors.

2018, new moon and Perseids once again! :-D

The Geminids in December are nearly at the new moon, and it falls on a weekend :-)

I think it was probably one of the best times I ever had with my clothes on.

Sorry to litter your post with a "few" pictures, Gordon. :-P

It's pretty exciting to "crack open" an SD card full of two nights of the Glory of the Universe.

You can post the photos from the trip you want!
That's what this thread is for!!! :-D

Having a ball looking at the photos, and remembering getting a side ache from laughing too much :-)

Thank You!
Laughter. The Best Medicine!
My 64G SD Card has 3.56G left on it.
55.8G of files.
I have made one test time lapse AVI file. 19 seconds long. Good, but I think I can do betterer. :-P

This was one that got painted by a passing car going to GS5.
I liked how the background caught light, while the foreground rocks got silhouetted.

Looks like you guys had a blast!

My own trip was not exactly a success. I had some lens issues, which I'll post about when I get a chance. I *saw* some great perseids, plus a nice sporadic - it was going towards perseus. None of these were caught on camera, though. Most of them were while I was trying to get things focused...

I had focused both my w/a lenses during the day, and then gaffer-taped them, but this was less than successful. The 10/18 was *way* off when it came down to it. I had my 18/55 on the 7D, which of course doesn't have a tilting screen. That is why I don't usually take it along, but I was determined not to get stuck with nothing like my last trip.

Using that combination, I have what I thought were some nice shots of Cassiopeia and it's attendant M31. They look good at normal viewing, but at 1:1, the focus isn't quite there. I'll post a couple later.

So, the demoralization continues... *sigh*. We start back to school on Wednesday, so my late-night excursions are going to come to a crashing halt

Anyway, at least some of us are having fun!
